About Us

  Tony and Patti Tardi were married on July 30, 1977. Together, they shared a dream; to begin a family-owned Italian Restaurant. And so, in 1979, they came upon a small store-front in Kenilworth, New Jersey that seated 35 people, and thus began "Tardi's Ristorante." 

   Lots of long hours, much sacrifice, hard work, and sheer determination ensued, and eventually paid off, and soon there-after, Tardi's Ristorante became a very popular destination and eventually a house-hold name! 

   At Tardi's, concern is all about the customer's enjoyment, and so to ensure their dining pleasure, Tony employs a very professional, well-trained, courteous, and friendly staff, always at the service of their patrons.

   Most importantly, as stated previously, Tardi's is a family-owned and operated restaurant. The Tardi family thanks God, and all their loyal customers for their success over the years.

   Besides starting the business in the year 1979, the Tardi's were blessed with the birth of their first born child, a son, named Anthony (Tony Boy) in March of the same year! Who could have known then that the apple literally did not fall far from the tree...as over the years Tony (Boy) developed a passionate love for cooking, becoming Tardi's First chef, by learning the art of Italian cuisine (Tardi's style) from none other than the best; his own father, the Master chef, who hails from Naples, Italy. Back in the 60's, Tony nicknamed (The Hawk), learned all aspects of the restaurant trade beginning at age 12, while employed by the beloved "Grandma" Di Donna and the Di Donna Family at Vesuvius Ristorante located on Bloomfield Avenue and 12th Street in Newark, New Jersey. Tony is forever grateful to the Di Donna family for their enormous role in shaping his future success.

   Together, father and son, along with a few other cooks and kitchen staff create daily "miracles" that flow from Tardi's state-of-the-art kitchen where everything must be prepared and cooked to perfection!

   Fortunately, the blessings continued, and in September, 1981, a second son Joseph, (Joe-Joe) was born into the Tardi family. Joey has also followed in his father's footsteps and joins his dad in the kitchen creating scrumptious meals.

   In May, 1984, Tony and Patti were once again blessed with their third son, Michael (Mikey), who has also decided to stay with the family business. Michael has a marvelous, friendly, outgoing personality and his talents are best-suited in the dining room. Mike is a very hard worker, who strives for excellence in all he does. He manages the bus staff and stations throughout the restaurant, and of course he is also very strong in public relations with Tardi's valued customers. 

   Finally, Patti is the heart of the family...for many years working in the background...in charge of the bookkeeping, the advertising, promotions, ordering, decorating. On occasion, she would randomly oversee the dining room and Restaurant operations, helping out her sons, and focusing on the spotlessness of the restaurant, always making sure everything is in good order. 

   Patti has a lot of pride in her husband's and sons' cooking, and through the years she always joked saying, "Thank God Tony is the Chef, because if I were the one cooking....we'd be broke!" 

   All in all, the Tardi family work together as a team to ensure the finest in dining pleasure, and they sincerely welcome any and all comments; compliments as well as constructive criticism to assist them in continuing their goal of 100% customer satisfaction.
